Fred
It was great meeting and talking with you when I picked up Cal.
Here's a quick update. Cal was great. He adapted to the hotel room and
all the strange smells, sounds, sights and people. He bonded with me
almost immediately so he universally followed me and listen to me rather
than strangers.
He traveled great. Once again absolutely not upset over anything.
He is learning as fast as any living thing I have ever seen. He is essentially
housebroken. He always lets you know, if you pay attention there are
no accidents. One time we didn't he couldn't quite make it all the way
to his area.
For some reason loading the dishwasher scared him. But Jan got him to
watch her do it several times and actually got him to help carry some
forks and glasses to the dishwasher and he quickly got over it and is
now willing to help out.
He retrieves 100% of the time and 90% of the time brings back the object
directly to to you dropping it at your feet or at your hands. He is
doing those from up to 20 ft. away outside.
He pays attention to every last word and every action. You have to be
extremely careful or he will learn the wrong thing immediately.
He now walks well on a leash, comes when you call him -- although the
distraction of the cat can create a problem. He is not hostile he just
wants to play. When one cat held its ground he does nothing, and the
other eventually took off Cal wanted to follow.
Jan or I are with him 24 hours a day. Cars are no problem, although
we are letting him ride in the crate.
The vet says he's great. He weighed 13.2 lbs. today. They also want
to keep him on the lean side. He is very coordinated. No worms. The
vet was very impressed with his structure, temperament and curiosity/intelligence.
They thought he was overall the best looking German shepherd they had
seen. Next vaccination is scheduled for a week from Saturday.
I just don't see how it gets better than this.
We simply can't thank you enough. We'll take some more pictures this
weekend and send them to you.
Andy

Courage is adjusting well to our home. He is extremely
well behaved and calm dog I have ever seen. We would like to find out
when will be the next litter available? We want to give Courage company.
We would like to get one more male puppy. We don't mind waiting. Just
let us know if any of your females are pregnant. You know our profile.
Courage has started obedience school. We got a program in our area such
that the trainer is giving us 4 personal sessions and 9 group sessions.
Attached are few pictures for you. See how big he has become in just
few weeks.
One thing our Vet is concerned about is, his testicals
have not descended. He thought it is little bit unusual. Any comments?

Fred,
Stephanie and I had a few questions about Capone. His puppy training
is going very well and we are starting to look into where he will continue
his training. Do you have an suggestions on where to go in South County?
We would like to do some protection training with him, but only for
home obviously and a neighbor is enrolled at Falco K9 Academy out in
Corona....their dog has a wonderful temperment and is very well trained.
What are your thoughs about neutering? I don't want to get him neutered,
but since we need to go back to Chicago a few times in the next couple
months, we need to take him to a place that will board him. Most places
require he be neutered after 6 months of age.....do you know of places
where that is not required?
He is doing very well, and is about 45 lbs now......he is a great puppy
and we have told everyone about your service. Thanks again, please let
me know what you think about these couple things.

Hi Fred:
Haven't heard from you. Hope everything is OK. Attached are some
pictures of Cal taken today.
Cal is trained, goes everywhere. Loves kids. Trainer called him"brilliant"
-- one of the smartest dogs he has seen. But that also means you have
to work with him because he wants to learn and will get board. Seems
to know names of about 30 plus objects and lots of commands (in addition
to obedience -- "go around," "go find" -- any
known object or somrthing you just show him and let him smell, "jump
up," "go for a ride," "get your leash") Still
can be rambunctious at home. Best thing is "place" -- a
wash cloth will do in any location or any new location.
He is a healthy, happy, high energy, lots of fun (particularly now
that he is pretty good at basic obedience plus some "tricks")
10 month old. Still on the lean side, but not a big eater (4.5+ or
so cups of Nutro ultra puppy per day w/ a little meat mixed in).
Getting more protective at home, seems to know property boundaries.
Not aggressive, but alerts. Gets along with dogs and cats -- except
Bonne Bell -- Jan's cat. Cal is jealous of her.
About to start training him to jog w/ mountain bike as he looks developed
enough for some running -- a mile or two to start. How does he look
to you?

Hi Fred:
I hope things are going well.
Just thought I would let you know that Cal continues to do well. Kaylee
has now been trained, and that has prompted us to go back into heavy
training with Cal.
With Cal you don't so much train him as show him what you want. Usually
one demonstration is sufficient.
He continues to amaze all. At the dog "day care" that he goes
to a couple of times a week (it is run very much like the "dog
whisperer" open environment with humans very much in control) Cal
has taught himself to open doors by turning doorknobs. He can show up
in the office and then let himself back out, usually closing the door
behind him to keep the other dogs from getting out with him. I have
not seen him do this but the staff reports he does this frequently.
They report that he is generally the alpha, but not aggressive. He will
back off from a fear biter but will return until he calms the dog down.
The staff uses him to control the pack.
We have been working on tracking because he enjoys it so much. He can
find anything almost regardless of difficulty -- he air scents naturally
but switches to ground when needed. No training was required for him
to do this.
His weight is between 78 and 80 pounds. He is still lean. Still not
a big eater. But he does eat well.
I don't know if all German shepherds are like him. But he is like no
dog I have ever seen.
This weekend I will send you a picture. After going back online in looking
at other German shepherds he remains the best looking German shepherd
I have ever seen.

Yes we did Kayley is great fun and well trained after some time away
at
puppy camp which was very difficult for Somer and I. She is "one
of the
girls" and frollicks with Somer and her friends by the pool and
through the
woods. Kayley follows Somer everywhere and lies on her bed while Somer
does homework. Everyone could not be happier!!! I will send a picture.
Thanks!!!!

Hi Fred:
As you know everyone around here is still amazed at Cal. Just to let
you know he now knows left from right -- in the car if you tell them
to go to a left window goes to left window (or the back window if told).
To find objects in the house you now tell him to go to some room and
find the object. He will go to the room and bring back that object.
He routinely opens any door or fence with a latch or handle that he
can push up or press down. He was not trained to do any of these things
he learned on his own.
One example of his intelligence: he was told to get his "vitamins"
from the "pantry." He headed for the pantry. When he got there,
he did not get his vitamins, but instead went across the kitchen and
got a drink of water. After getting the drink of water he returned to
the pantry, got the vitamins out of the drawer and brought them to Jan.
So instead of being "trained" to go get his vitamins, he understood
the task and was capable of modifying his actions to do two separate
things.
He watches animal shows and children shows on television (such as Sesame
Street) intently. He ignores most other shows. He gets upset at the
appropriate high stress parts. He weighs a little over 80 pounds.
In any event the point of this is people are interested in the puppies.
What are they like?

Dear Fred,
Just wanted to say thank you for Nanja and your wonderful service
you
gave me and my family. You were always quick to answers all our
questions. You gave my family print outs of all her shots, gave
information on what type of food to feed her, etc. You were always
professional and kind. Our veterinarian was very impressed by our
puppy. He said she was in beautiful condition. It shows what care
you
give to your dogs/puppies.
